Since the introduction of Mental Arithmetic to Malaysian schools in 1995, it is noted that it has contributed greatly to improving the students’ calculation skills – faster and far more accurate. As a result, in 1998, our Ministry of Education (MOE) included Mental Arithmetic in the school curriculum. In 2002, eight outstanding instructors from China were engaged by our Government to train more Mental Arithmetic teachers here in Malaysia for teaching the subject in our schools.
Mental Arithmetic is being encouraged in schools throughout the country in order to further foster students’ interest in mathematics, and to raise the level of achievement not only in the subject but also in other areas.
Mental Arithmetic contributes greatly to student’s performance not only in Mathematics but also in various other aspects – it helps to increase one’s ability in memory, concentration, and understanding. It also helps to sharpen one’s analytical power and audio-visual responses. It therefore also helps to improve performance in other school subjects.
For the convenience of the parents and students of Diyana Kindergarten, we are working together with Diyana to provide Mental Arithmetic classes at Diyana. The response has been good. For this year, 2010, our Mental Arithmetic classes will start in second week of January, 13 January 2010 (First lesson is for trial).
